We know that Jewish holiday food is full not only of calories, but symbolism. We eat latkes fried in oil to remind us of the oil that lasted eight days. But why do we put applesauce on our latkes? On Sunday December 18 it will symbolize that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree: we will sing with and listen to the Chanukah music of the wonderful and fabulous Susy Boimoil Starr and her wonderful and fabulous son Jeremy Lipsin.
The latkes will be, as usual, pretty wonderful as well. Volunteer to help! Leave a message in the office for Myra Stern-Thomas, Kitchen Committee chair.
