Hi dancers. Well, we got zoom bombed, so I’ve been studying about Zoom bombing and getting familiar with security. I was completely unprepared since I thought our group was too obscure to attract notice. But I’ve learned that Zoom bombing gangs use algorithms to generate thousands of zoom addresses, and when they hit a live meeting, they call in the gang. This means that hiding a zoom address doesn’t always help since it’s likely they just hit us randomly. I did generate a new url address which will change each time. I’ll also use a waiting room (or try to) since that’s really the only thing that can keep people out, but I would have to recognize the names. It could result in denying a new person who is legit, so if you have friends who might look in, it’s best to email me their names.
The other security feature is the red security button which hosts and co-hosts have, which can freeze the meeting to dark and silent, while the host kicks off offenders. I suppose they could change names or computers and come back, and the waiting room would have to catch them again. The last resort is to do what we did last time: everybody signed off and waited for me to set up and email a new zoom address. I will be asking if anyone wants to co-host, since once I am dancing I can only get to the waiting room to let people in between dances.
