Firstly, thanks to Barbara Tomin for being such a gracious hostess for our last discussion meeting.
In HOUSE ON ENDLESS WATERS by Israeli writer Emuna Elon (fiction, 310 pgs.; Hebrew, 2016, English translation, 2020), an Israeli writer returns to his birth-city, Amsterdam, where he learns of his mother’s and others’ WWII experiences. The Dutch people are very close-mouthed about those horrific times. But the novel isn’t full of gory details, but includes lots of human moments, beautiful place descriptions and a a definite feeling of mystery; what is going to happen next.
We’ll discuss the book in mid-July in a member’s home. We have 12 copies, + 1 in Hebrew, borrowed from the SF Jewish Community Library. We are part of their Book Club in a Box. All CBA members and friends who read the book are welcome to participate. It is a very fluid and interesting group — some come often, some come now and then, and some only for a particular book. All OK. Phone Linda 707-544-4532 (landline) with comments or to borrow a book.
