The Siddur Master Class at Congregation Beth Ami invites participants into a deeper exploration of Siddur Hadash, the prayer book that shapes our communal worship and spiritual life. This course offers an opportunity to slow down, look closely, and rediscover the meaning, theology, and poetry embedded in the prayers we recite together.
Through guided study and discussion, we will explore the structure, themes, and values of Siddur Hadash, examining how traditional liturgy and contemporary Conservative perspectives come together to express Jewish spirituality, ethics, and hope. Attention will be given to the historical roots of the prayers, their evolving interpretations, and how they speak to modern lives and concerns.
This class goes beyond learning what comes next in the service. Instead, it focuses on why these prayers matter, how their language shapes Jewish identity, and how Siddur Hadash reflects Conservative Judaism’s commitment to inclusivity, meaning, and personal connection.
Participants will:
- Gain confidence navigating Shabbat and festival services at Beth Ami
- Explore key prayers and themes unique to Siddur Hadash
- Discover how tradition and innovation interact in Conservative liturgy
- Deepen personal intention (kavanah) and spiritual engagement
- Find new entry points into communal and individual prayer
Whether you are a longtime member or new to Beth Ami, this master class offers a welcoming space to ask questions, share insights, and transform the siddur from a familiar book into a source of inspiration and connection.
