Reverse Tashlich was another success this year. Member attendance was not as great as last year, but we found plenty of opportunities to beautify Doyle Park. We plan on continuing this tradition next year. We are searching for another location in, or near Santa Rosa that needs Tikkun Olam. We appreciate your feedback and new ideas. Perhaps doing it right after the High Holy Days is preferred. Please let us know what you think.
Our committee is continuing to work on designing and creating a banner that supports an important social justice issue. It will represent a quote from Leviticus, about being strangers in new lands. We feel committed to supporting our immigrant citizens that live in our community. This is one way to express our support and be reminded of our ancestors’ struggles. We will keep the Board and the membership informed as we continue.
We have also made a tzedakah box to help provide funds to immigrants who are needing legal support. Any donation will go to VIDAS: Vital Immigrant Defense Advocacy Services of Sonoma County. You will see the box in the entry way to the sanctuary soon. To learn more about VIDAS go to https://vidaslegal.org/
We continue to stay in touch with Yana Kalmykova and her family, the Ukrainian immigrants that our synagogue welcomed at our Friday, Shabbatt service two years ago. Our Advocates for Social Justice committee sponsored Yana and her son when she was living in Santa Rosa with a family while waiting for her husband to get a visa to come here. They are doing well, now living in the Los Angeles area.
What we have planned for the future
We are also creating a resource list to provide support for local immigrants. More information to come later.
