Next up is BECOMING EVE — MY JOURNEY FROM ULTRA-ORTHODOX RABBI TO TRANSGENDER WOMAN by Abby Chava Stein ( Memoir, 238 pgs, 2019.) Our Rabbi Ron Koas and new member, Aly Davis, want to lead a discussion/conversation about it at CBA on June 14 after Shabbat lunch. Rabbi says book discussion will start at 12:45pm, so come then, if can’t join us earlier.
BETTY BOYD just read it and found it “fascinating” — both the glimpse of Hasidic life and Abby Stein’s coming-of-age story. We did mention Abby Stein’s book in the last SHOFAR and others have also read the memoir already. Now I have to return the 12 copies to the SF Jewish Community Library because June is PRIDE MONTH and other J. congregations would like to borrow it. There are still a couple of weeks; if you are interested and haven’t read it yet, you can probably borrow or buy a copy locally. It is also available on audiobook.
