We will have THE LIAR by Ayelet Gundar-Goshen (fiction, 288 pgs., Hebrew, 2018; English translation, 2019) available to borrow in the beginning of July. Nofar is an unhappy teenager working in an ice cream shop when a frustrated customer unleashes an insulting verbal attack on her. Soon, she has inadvertently accused him of sexual assault. The eyes of her nation and her classmates are upon her. She does relish the attention, but at the cost of her conscience. If she continues to lie, a man will be wrongfully convicted. And if she reveals the truth?
Our group did read another of Gundar- Goshen’s books, WAKING LIONS, awhile back and had a lively gathering. Recommended.
We participate in the SF Jewish Community Library’s Book Club in a Box and usually meet in small groups in different members’ homes. Last time Barbara Tomin was our gracious hostess. Discussion will probably be August 4.
