Professor Ben Benson is of mixed heritage, Jewish and American Indian. This has given him unique access to Native cultures in both North and South America. While serving as coordinator of Native American Studies at Santa Rosa Junior College, Professor Benson assembled a 3500-piece collection of Native Art for the Jesse Peter Museum, where he still serves as Director Emeritus. He regards being tutored by Native elders in Sonoma County as one of his most profound experiences. His multi-media presentation, at Congregation Beth Ami, will share the core features of the ancient Native American heritage of the North Bay region, which have fascinating similarities to our Jewish tradition.
