I have been keeping some track of folk dance groups that have resumed in-person dancing. I know of a group (Udy’s) in the Santa Cruz area that dances outside on a deck without masks. Most groups seem to have resumed in-person dancing but with masks, and also proof of vaccination. My question is mainly, can I stand to dance Israeli dances in a mask? I’m going to drop in to Marilyn Smith’s Razzmatazz group and try dancing with a mask to see how i do. But the Balkan dances would be easier to manage than Israeli ones, I expect.
There has been some news of loosening mask guidelines, but I am not set up to be an early adapter, i have to see what other groups do. In the meantime, we continue to dance every other Wednesday on Zoom. Since getting Zoom bombed, I have been changing the zoom url each time, so if you are not on my mailing list and want to find us, please email me Leanne(a)sonic.net .
In the meantime, our newest dance is Mudbira, sung by Israeli-Yemenite sister group A-WA in Yemenite Arabic
