BACNS has two classes for our oldest students.
The Anafim (which means branches in Hebrew) class serves a mixed-age group of children ages 3-5, and is taught by Amanda and Ellen.
The Alim (leaves) class serves children ages 4-5, and is taught by Barbara and Naeomi.
Teacher Amanda began teaching preschoolers in her native New York City in 2013, shortly after graduating from Pratt Institute with a BFA with Honors in Creative Writing. Upon moving to California she received her certificate in Early Childhood Education with Distinction from UCLA, and taught in several Bay Area preschools before finding her home at Beth Ami in 2017. She is focused on developing a curriculum that is fun, adventurous, individualized and dedicated to childhood creativity. In addition, Amanda is also the co-author of the Project Droid chapter book series, published by Skyhorse Publishing.
Teacher Ellen received her B.A. in Psychology from Sonoma State University and has completed her child development coursework at Santa Rosa Junior College. Before coming to Beth Ami, she worked as an assistant and then as a lead teacher at Brush Creek Montessori. She has substitute taught at Art in the Garden, a Reggio-inspired school in Petaluma, as well as Spring Hill Montessori.
Teacher Barbara has a B.A. in Early Childhood/Elementary education from Michigan State University, and a Reading Certificate and CLAD certification from Sonoma State University. She has worked for the past 16 years in early childhood, public school, and Jewish education. Barbara has been a part of Beth Ami since 1997 when her daughter was born! Barbara loves coming to work with the children and having the opportunity to work with such a warm, talented, knowledgeable, and amazing staff.
Teacher Naeomi is starting her second year here as a teacher at BACNS. Naeomi is from Colorado, and has lived in the bay area for 15 years. She attended Bellevue Community College and received her Associate’s Degree in Arts & Science; emphasis on Early Childhood Education. She also attended the University of Washington and has a Bachelor’s Degree in English. She has been a preschool teacher for her entire tenure in the bay area. She deeply enjoys playing in the imagination realms with children and seeing the world from their perspective. She wears many hats, so in her free time she’s a mother, an artist, a healer, a friend and an explorer of the curiosities of the beautiful world we live in.
Beth Ami Community Nursery School is a program of Congregation Beth Ami, and is supported by the Jewish Community Federation (JCF) of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties, as well as Jewish Learning Works and First Five Sonoma County.
