Jewish culture and values

We celebrate Jewish culture in a developmentally appropriate way through joyous holiday festivities, stories, music and art, shared values, and by celebrating Shabbat (Sabbath).

We welcome Shabbat every Friday by singing and reading stories as a school with the Rabbi, lighting the Shabbat candles, saying the blessing over grape juice, and baking and sharing challah (braided egg bread).

We teach the Jewish values that are universal and relevant to our children’s worlds, such as chesed (loving kindness), tzedakah (justice/charity), kavod (honor/respect/dignity) and tza’ar ba’alay cha’yim (avoiding cruelty to animals).

BACNS is open to everyone. We welcome all preschool aged children and their families into our community, regardless of faith or affiliation.

We value a multicultural environment and encourage families with other traditions and celebrations to share them with us in the context of learning about our broader community.
